Tiers: a cable car with a “rooftop terrace”

Tiers offers more than just fantastic natural scenery – it boasts a unique highlight: Italy’s first convertible cable car! The name says it all: the two gondolas of the Tiers cable car have a “rooftop terrace” where up to ten passengers can enjoy an open-air ride. Meanwhile, the enclosed cabin below offers space for another 50 passengers. The cable car whisks visitors high up onto the Catinaccio/Rosengarten mountain – right in the heart of the Dolomites. Covering a four-kilometre stretch in just seven minutes, the ride ends at the mountain station near Frommer Alm. From there, you can venture further up into the realm of King Laurin by taking the König Laurin cable car to the Kölner mountain hut.

To blend with the natural landscape as much as possible, the valley and mountain stations were built underground, leaving only their entrances and exits visible above ground. Inside the stations, soft green lighting, wooden accents, and glass combine to create a natural atmosphere. This project also serves as a model of environmental responsibility: shuttle buses take guests from their accommodation to the cable car’s valley station. The journey is even greener for guests staying at the Cyprianerhof – you can reach the valley station on foot in under five minutes.

Since the opening of the mountain railway in February 2022, visitors have direct access to the Carezza ski area, ensuring endless snowy adventures in winter. In summer, the region transforms into a hiker’s paradise with an extensive network of trails to explore. A visit to the stunning Lake Carezza/Karersee, famous for its mesmerising deep green hues, is a must during the warmer months, while the views of the Latemar and the Catinaccio/Rosengarten are breathtaking at any time of year.
