In this blog post, we outline five traditional events worth experiencing that all take place in the shadow of the stunning Catinaccio/Rosengarten massif.
King Laurin Schupfen hike
The King Laurin Schupfen hike takes place on the second Sunday in September. This hike takes you from Alpine hut (“Schupfe”) to Alpine hut on the Catinaccio/Rosengarten. Each hut offers a vibrant mix of music and local gourmet fare.
Alpine cattle drive
Every autumn, Tiers celebrates the return of the cattle from the mountain pastures with the “Almabtrieb”. Decorated with flowers, the cows parade down to the valley in a festive atmosphere filled with music, dancing, and market stalls.
Berglerharass
This unique picnic is held every summer by the idyllic Wuhnleger Weiher pond, under the majestic Catinaccio/Rosengarten. From noon onwards, enjoy local specialities like venison sausage, traditional bread from Tiers, and Krapfen (fried flat pastries) in a relaxed setting with live music.
Sky Marathon Rosengarten Schlern
This challenging marathon runs through the Alpine terrain that surrounds the Catinaccio/Rosengarten massif. Starting and ending in Tiers, participants can choose either a 45-kilometre-long course or a shorter 36-kilometre route, each offering a thrilling adventure.
“Berglertafel” – a mountaineer’s dinner
This event, held annually in summer, features a five-course menu of traditional Tiers dishes served in an extraordinary Alpine meadow setting with views of the Catinaccio/Rosengarten. Diners gather at an over 100-metre-long table to enjoy the flavours and ambience of this unique gourmet experience.
