Mountain biking in the Dolomites – a beginner’s guide

Embark on a mountain biking adventure in Tiers am Rosengarten.

The Cyprianerhof is nestled in a breathtakingly beautiful landscape and is the ideal starting point for your cycling adventures. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, hundreds of kilometres of MTB trails await you. Your bike excursions will be marked by the solitude of the mountains, the whistles of marmots, and stunning panoramas. Here, exciting nature trails wind beneath the towering rocky peaks of the Dolomites.

For those who are just discovering mountain biking, we have three tips to ensure that nothing stands in the way of your adventure!

1. Selecting the right bike
Mountain bikes come in a vast array of options, each tailored to different uses and comfort levels. For mountain biking beginners, we highly recommend a trail bike or all-mountain bike due to their moderate suspension travel.

2. Safety and equipment
Aside from the mountain bike itself, the helmet is the most crucial piece of safety equipment, as it protects you from falls and low-hanging branches, making it essential for biking safety. Elbow and knee pads are also indispensable for full protection. Additionally, it is wise to invest in cycling-specific clothing such as shirts, trousers, and jackets, as these garments are designed to be breathable, quick-drying, and lightweight to ensure your comfort. Cycling gloves are equally beneficial, offering warmth while protecting and cushioning your hands in case you fall.

3. Be prepared
Just in case, it’s best to pack a small rucksack with a spare inner tube, a pump, and a small multi-tool for your mountain bike excursion. Practise changing the inner tube at home to boost your confidence and readiness for potential emergencies. Moreover, it’s important to perform a routine check of your bike’s brakes, gears, and tyre pressure before each ride.

At the Cyprianerhof, our experienced bike guides are on hand to offer the best tips and tricks on riding techniques, bike trails, and more!
